Coronado Does Battle with Clearwater

Gloves are off!

Cyndee Haydon, premier Clearwater Beach Realtor, seems to think that muggy Clearwater can somehow best Coronado Beach real estate! Cyndee is a dear friend and prolific blogger, but San Diego real estate and Coronado homeowners in particular, should take note of Miz Haydon’s observations. Do YOU think Clearwater playgrounds are superior to San Diego beaches? Is pricing built into value? Here’s what Cyndee writes: Recently I was reviewing the Top 10 Best Beaches in America by Dr. Stephen Leatherman, aka … [Read more...]

San Diego Ranks in Luxury Homes and Zips

Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club

We know San Diego real estate tends to be expensive, especially when it comes to luxury homes-- and Forbes has just affirmed the fact. According to their recent survey of the 500 most expensive  zip codes in the United States, San Diego can claim a lucky 13. And how many zip codes are there in the United States? Approximately 43,000. In measuring median home prices, Rancho Santa Fe (92067) made Forbe's list of the 25 most expensive zip codes, followed by  a dozen other San Diego communities--most of … [Read more...]

2009 San Diego Christmas Light Displays

Christmas lights at Hotel Del Coronado

Carlsbad, CA--Christmas in San Diego may not be snowy or white, but the twinkling light displays bring cameras, adults and kids to  many San Diego neighborhoods. They also bring sparkles of light to what many are seeing as a dreary economy this year. Here is the short (and very incomplete) list of fabulous Christmas light displays in homes and communities throughout San Diego County: Carlsbad: 900 block of North Main Street in downtown Carlsbad. Lights and Christmas music. La Costa in South Carlsbad: … [Read more...]

San Diego Beach Homes Catch Royal Eye

spencer-photo

by Roberta Murphy We frequently get inquiries regarding oceanfront homes in San Diego--and love showing those properties. Therefore, it truly snagged our interest when we heard that Earl Charles Spencer, Princess Diana's younger brother, was searching for a home along the San Diego coast. If you recall, Spencer gave the touching eulogy for Princess Diana at her funeral--and is a noted historical author as well as a reproducer of fine royal antiques. It seems he looked at beach estates for a couple of days, … [Read more...]

San Diego's real estate market notwithstanding, you shouldn't have to drive far from your San Diego home to find a good spot to picnic and watch the fireworks: 2007 Fireworks Schedule in San Diego County SAN … [Read more...]

Coronado Shores Condos: Living High

Coronado Shores Condominiums

by Roberta Murphy Years ago, when I first considered moving to Southern California from Houston, I used to stay with friends at the Coronado Shores on Coronado--which sat just across the bay from downtown San Diego. My friends' Coronado Shores condo didnt overlook the San Diego skyline (which it might have done had it been across the hall); rather, it overlooked the Pacific Ocean and the glorious beach below. These Coronado high rises reminded me of the oceanfront complexes in Fort Lauderdale and … [Read more...]

Hauntings at the Hotel del Coronado

Hotel del Coronado

Reports of hauntings at the Hotel del Coronado have circulated for years. The most famous ghost is a young woman who reportedly committed suicide near the turn of the last century. I don't recall exactly where she stayed that fateful night at the Hotel del Coronado, but I do recall a desk clerk giving me the room number (Room 3227?) during a stay there a few years ago. Unable to resist the temptation during that stay, I went by that small interior room in the hotel (with windows that opened into the hallway), … [Read more...]
